Fueled by Won Bin’s current huge success with his action thriller movie Ajuhssi / The Man From Nowhere, we watched his previous movie, titled Mother as a consolation because we still have to wait to see Ajuhssi.
Released last year, and directed by  famous Korean director Bong Joon Ho (Host, Memories of Murder), Mother already won many awards and went to many film festival, from Cannes to Hawaii.

Movie opened with an old woman walked in a grassland. Then she stopped for a while and all of sudden, she danced along with the music . (From how she danced, we knew she was a great actress).

That old woman at her sixties is a single mother, owned a small herbs shop and sometimes gives unlicensed acupuncture services. (Since there is no information about her name during the movie, we will called this old women Hye Ja, same with her real name Kim Hye Ja).

Hye Ja only son, Yoon Do Joon (played by Won Bin), at his late twenties, is a mentally handicapped man, who sleeps in the same bed with his mother.

So, Hye Ja always worried about Do Joon and babysits him from a far.
Do Joon didn’t work due to his inability, only plays around his neighborhood, sometimes with his friend, a thug named Jin Tae.

One day, there was a murder case in that village. A school girl named Moon Ah Jung was murdered and Do Joon was arrested because police found a golf  ball beside the victim body with Do Joon name printed in that ball.

Hye Ja, with all her power try to persuade a lawyer to defend her son. Disappointed with the lawyer, Hye Ja decided to do her own detective work to prove her son  innocent.
Hye Ja did everything she can on her detective work, even misjudge Do Joon’s thug friend, Jin Tae.

She also has no objection to ask Jin Tae to torture the victim’s friends in order to find the truth for her son.
On top of her effort, she killed an old man who proved that Do Joon was the real murder of the victim.

Furthermore, she let an innocent man imprisoned instead of Do Joon although she knew the truth that Do Joon is the real murder.

Mother is a great movie, one of the best, amazing , wonderfully directed and showed great cast.
Kim Hye Ja is the star of this movie, she performed an astonishing acting, successfully reflected her difficult situation as a mother of an unusual son.
Won Bin did a great job too, he didn’t excessive with his acting as a mentally handicapped man.

Message we got from this movie ,  Hye Ja as a mother will do everything for the sake of her child. Killing other people or blaming other people are included.

We are not a mother (not yet) and Hye Ja  beautifully told us the battle and the struggle a mother could faced, it was a lifetime job, y’all !

Finally, Mother is a worthy movie to be seen.
