Beside Kim Soo Hyun, Covertness also added another handsome actors, Park Ki Woong and Lee Hyun Woo.
Park Ki Woong , the villain in Bridal Mask, plays Lee Hae Rang. He’s a playful spy, Won Ryu Han’s friend and also rival. Teenage actor Lee Hyun Woo (To The Beautiful You) plays Lee Hae In, a high school boy with strict principle.
Alongside those young armada, Covertness also brings veteran actor Son Hyun Joo (Chaser) who will play chief instructor of North Korean spy agency. There’s also Kim Sung Kyun (movie War Against Criminal, Neighbors) who plays North Korean chief team.
How about the leading lady ?

By the weekend of 24-26 August , The Thieves was officially becomes the third most watched Korean movie ever with total of 12,095,090 admissions. Astonishing !
But, unfortunately The Thieves failed to record itself as #1 movie for five straight consecutive week. The movie placed at number 3 for the entire weekend with 513.819 attendances.
Taking #1 spot was new movie , a thriller titled Neighbors, starred by Kim Yun Jin (‘Lost‘ actress) and teenage actress Kim Sae Ron (The Man from Nowhere).
Kim Yun Jin plays Kyung Hee, a mother who’s in despair after her daughter was kidnapped and murdered. She then starts to suspect her neighbor, a man living next door. With the help of her another neighbors, they try to stop that man to do another crime.
Neighbors collected 782,227 admissions during the weekend and Cha Tae Hyun’s comedy movie The Grand Heist took #2 spot with 537,461 admissions for total of more than 4 million admission since its debut date. Such a great result for Cha Tae Hyun !
Although in its third weekend (10-12 August) The Thieves dropped 43% in attendance compared with its second weekend, but The Thieves still tops the box office list.
The Thieves collected 1.138.579 admissions in its third weekend for a cumulative of 9.237.709 admissions only in three weeks.
The second place goes to new comedy movie The Grand Heist by Cha Tae Hyun and Oh Ji Ho which opened with a solid 961.805 admissions.
Rounded the big three was Joo Ji Hoon’s saeguk I Am A King with 271.095 admissions.
Aside for winning the box office spot for three straight week, The Thieves is now rank as the fifth most watched movie in Korean history with its 9.237.709 admissions.
And it is guaranteed that next week The Thieves will surpass The King and The Clown which holds the fourth rank with 10.513.715 admissions and probably on its way to reach the top of all time list which is held by Avatar with total of 13.302.637 admissions back in 2009.
The Thieves‘ box office success was predictable in the start but not with this surprising numbers. The Thieves officially trumps Dark Night Rises for 2 straight weekends and as for today has been collecting more admission than Dark Night Rises which was opened a week earlier.
For the weekend of August 3 -5 , The Thieves brought 2,007,595 admissions for total of 6,882,518 since debuted on July 25.
Meanwhile Dark Night Rises brought 616,664 in the weekend for the total of 5,524,435 since debuted on July 19.
On its way, The Thieves already broke several records such as movie with the biggest opening numbers in South Korea this year. The Thieves also booked equal record with 2006 hit movie The Host (Korean movie) and 2011 Hollywood movie Transformers : Dark of The Moon to bring 4 million admissions only in 8 days after opening.
Although it’s still a quite long way for The Thieves to conquer Avatar (the all-time biggest admissions movie in South Korea with more than 13 million audiences) , but it’s undisputedly clear that The Thieves will break the 10 million marks in the next couple of weeks.
That means Kim Soo Hyun must be ready to keep his promise to give a piggyback to the 10,000,000th admission.
This bunch of funny thieves were not only stealing a huge diamond in Macau but also successfully steals Korean box office from superhero The Dark Knight Rises who’s still the king of box office in its home country, United States.
Opened on July 25, during three days weekend (27-29 July), The Thieves collected 2,004,232 admissions. And added with the previous days (25 & 26 July), The Thieves brought total of 2,866,870 admission in its first 5 days.
This is a huge number , and was the second biggest opening ever in Korean movie history after 2006 hit movie The Host.
Meanwhile The Dark Night Rises collected 891,058 admissions during the weekend to the total of 4,256,320 admission since its debut on July 19.
So, the question is , will the star studded movie The Thieves break 10 million admissions ?
It’s highly possible and it will be a funny moment because Kim Soo Hyun -one of its stars- promised to give a piggyback and watching movie together with the 10,000,000th audience.
Even if the movie fails to reach that amazing number, at least, Jun Ji Hyun will be satisfied as she was hungry for a box office movie.
