A Gentleman’s Dignity is not only got attention because it’s Jang Dong Gun’s comeback drama in 12 years but also because of the writer and the director (PD) behind it.
Writer Kim Eun Sook and PD Sin Woo Chul are the exactly same team behind the super popular dramas such as Lovers in Paris , Lovers, On Air, City Hall and the latest Secret Garden.
No wonder that expectation for this drama to make great rating is very high.
But, what’s PD Sin Woo Chul’s opinion ?
During the drama’s press conference event on May 23, PD Sin said : ‘ Although our previous works were big hit, it’s not a pressure and I don’t care about rating’.
Really ?
PD Sin continued : ‘If the drama is interesting, many people will watch. If not, they won’t watch. The rating result could be determined when the drama finished, if people at home burst into laugh at the scene that we think funny, we feel proud’.
But, although PD Sin didn’t care about rating, he showed confidence of his new drama as he said : ‘Our target is just 20% rating in the starting episode’. Wow !!
In the last 3 years -as we recall again- only handful non-family dramas successfully debuted with more than 20% rating.
Iris, Athena and Fugitive : Plan B were among them, but the last 2 dramas both ended embarrassingly around 12% rating after their big opening number.
Even Secret Garden debuted with 16% before rising high to reach 30% rating.
So, for PD Sin projected an opening number around 20% was definitely a confident move.
Let’s see if he’s right on the money when A Gentleman’s Dignity debuts May 26.
